References

References: indispensable

References are an absolute must for your candidacy. They are almost always checked by recruiters and you must prepare them carefully.

Your references should not be on your CV. Instead, you must indicate References available upon request at the bottom of your CV, to invite recruiters to ask you for them. They will definitely do so if they are interested in your profile. At that point, you can give them the contact information of previous employers, work colleagues, former teachers or other professional contacts who wish to support you. These people should be familiar with your work and your strong points, and for this reason, an immediate supervisor is the ideal reference.

You can also give recruiters letters of reference that you have collected each time you left a position. Obviously, the longer one has been in the work force, the more references one has. If you have just completed your studies, ask one of your teachers for a letter, or an employer in a summer job or an internship.

What should a reference letter contain?

- the title of the position held

- the tasks that were carried out

- the circumstances in which they were carried out (date, location, etc.)

- your main accomplishments

- the most important skills that were put to use

- the qualities that were appreciated in you
