Experience

Experience: clarity and precision above all else

The section on experience is crucial, as it is one of the first sections to be read by recruiters; they want to know about your current work as well as your professional career path in order to evaluate your skills. Here, you need to be clear, precise and direct.

There are two watchwords to keep in mind in order to write an effective Experience section: responsibilities and accomplishments. For each element of your professional experience, you must include your responsibilities as part of this position as well as what you accomplished. Be careful, though; it’s not about simply listing the various tasks. Too many details may, in fact, mask the essential; you have to ensure that you emphasize the strong points that correspond to the position being targeted. You also must make sure that you highlight your best accomplishments, so that the recruiter sees them at first glance.

No gaps!

It happens that there are “incidents along way” of the career path: a period of unemployment or lengthy illness, for example. In any case, you will have to find something to write in your CV about this time, as recruiters detest gaps. If you worked at a little job while waiting to find a position that really corresponds to your profile, do mention it. You should not be embarrassed about this, quite the contrary: it shows that you are versatile. If you remained active during the period of unemployment, you would be wrong not to mention it: volunteer work, home renovations, courses…

It is during the interview that you will be able to explain this situation in greater detail.
